How to sell audiobooks in 5 easy steps

Step 1

Upload your audiobook

Upload your audiobook

Have MP3s that meet our specs? Upload audio, metadata, and cover art to a free account. Not ready yet? Produce with Chiify first—pay upfront or use royalty share.

Knowing your audience

Avid readers, podcast listeners, and people who listen while commuting or working. A clear listener strategy improves pricing and promo choices later.

Financial planning and pricing

Step 2

Set your price

Set your price

Set your own MSRP instead of a blanket price. Some retailers override by length—we can’t guarantee MSRP on every channel—but you stay in control of the strategy.

Common pricing guide (by length)

  • Under 1 hour: $7 or less
  • 1–3 hours: $7–$10
  • 3–5 hours: $10–$20
  • 5–10 hours: $15–$25
  • 10–20 hours: $20–$30
  • 20+ hours: $25–$30

Rule of thumb: about $1.50–$3.00 per finished hour.

Step 4

Get approval

Get approval

Our team reviews audio requirements—consistent bitrate, MP3, chapter announcements, loudness, and more—before handoff.

A note on the approval process

Each retailer runs its own process. Live times often range from about 5 to 60 days per partner. We may not get a “live” ping—check storefronts.

Growth and royalty earnings

Step 5

Distribute and earn

Distribute and earn

Sell across major retail, streaming, and library channels. You receive consolidated royalty payments with reporting. Titles you produced yourself or paid Chiify to produce keep up to 80% of net; royalty-share titles follow the 60/40 deal.

Frequently asked questions

Audiobook listeners live across retail apps, subscription catalogs, and libraries. Non-exclusive wide distribution captures that demand without locking a title to one storefront for years.
